N2  - Diese im Frühjahr 2004 fertiggestellte Studie möchte das Wesen der postmodernen Kriegsführung aus einem historischen Ansatz heraus erklären. Denn um verstehen zu können, was den postmodernen Krieg charakterisiert, ist es im Rahmen einer komplexen Kriegstheorie nötig, das Phänomen Krieg und die Auswirkungen technologischer Innovationen aus einer historischen Perspektive mit einer Kombination aus Kriegs- (u.a. Toffler (Dreiwellenmodell), Sun Tzu, Clausewitz) und Medientheorien (u.a. McLuhan, Virilio, Boyd, Bucher) zu erfassen. Diese Analyse möchte darauf aufbauend folgende zentrale Fragen beantworten: Welche Potentiale bieten die Kommunikations- und Informationsverarbeitungstechnologien der postmodernen Informationsgesellschaft den Streitkräften zu Beginn des 21. Jahrhunderts? Wie verändert sich das Verständnis von Krieg unter dem Einfluss dieser Möglichkeiten? Wie verändert sich das Verhältnis von Technik und Strategie, bzw. Krieg und Politik unter dem Einfluss dieser technologischen Innovationen? Welche Rolle werden die bisher zentralen Akteure, die Nationalstaaten, unter den Vorzeichen des postmodernen Informationskrieges spielen? Und bieten diese neuen Technologien Lösungsansätze für die zu Beginn des 21. Jahrhunderts absehbaren Konflikte?
N2  - The purpose of this book is to formulate a philosophical concept of warfare in the information age using a historical approach. To understand all implications of postmodern warfare it is necessary to analyse the phenomenon and the implications of technological innovations out of a historical perspective using a combination of theories of warfare (Toffler, Sun Tzu, Clausewitz) and theories of media (McLuhan, Virilio, Boyd, Bucher). The purpose of this analysis is to answer the following questions: Which potentials of the communication and information processing technologies of the postmodern information society are usable for the armed forces in the beginning of the 21st century? Is there any change of the perceptions of warfare under the influence of these possibilities? Are there any changes in the relationship of technology and strategy on the one hand and war and politics on the other hand under the influence of the technological innovations? What is the function of the dominating actors of the present, the nation state, in the age of information warfare? Is there any potential in the new technologies which can provide solutions for the conflicts in the beginning of the 21st century?
