N2 - The term scholarly information literacy is used to define the abilities required to efficiently identify relevant scholarly information (e.g. journal articles) and to evaluate the identified publications. Information literacy is considered to be an important prerequisite for academic achievement and for success in the employment market. The aim of this work is to develop measurement instruments for scholarly information literacy tailored to psychology students. An important underlying assumption is that information literacy contains declarative (background knowledge) as well as procedural (mastery of strategies and procedures) components. For assessing these components separately, two instruments were developed and applied when evaluating an information literacy instruction program: a test using the multiple-choice format and information search tasks. Medium-sized correlations between the two instruments and the results of a cluster analysis indicate that they capture different components of information literacy.
