• Wilhelm Windelband (1848-1915) gilt als ein wegbereitender Denker, der die wertphilosophische Ausrichtung der sogenannten Südwestdeutschen Schule vorzeichnet. Aufgrund dieser Vorreiterrolle sowie seiner fragmentarischen Denkweise gerät die Eigenständigkeit seines Philosophierens oft in Vergessenheit oder wird meistens im Schatten der Rezeptionsgeschichte gesehen. Die vorliegende Arbeit macht sich zur Aufgabe, Windelbands Philosophie zunächst in ihrer Eigentümlichkeit wiederherzustellen, um anschließend nach ihrer systematischen Bedeutung fragen zu können. Neben den entwicklungsgeschichtlichen Aspekten, anhand derer Windelbands gedanklicher Werdegang in drei Phasen (Psychologismus, Wertphilosophie und Kulturphilosophie) eingeteilt wird, geht die vorliegende Arbeit vor allem der Frage nach, in wie fern die von ihm konzipierte Wertphilosophie als Kulturphilosophie zu verstehen ist. Die Forderung des späten Windelbands, den Kantischen Kritizismus zu einer umfassenden Kulturphilosophie zu erweitern, dient dabei als roter Faden dieses Interpretationsversuchs. Die Herausarbeitung möglicher systematischer Ansatzpunkte innerhalb seiner Werttheorie, die dieser Forderung genügen, soll Windelbands Status als Kulturphilosoph untermauern.
• Wilhelm Windelband (1848-1915) is regarded as a thinker, who preordains the orientation of the philosophy of value for the so called Southwest School. Because of his pioneering role and his fragmentary way of thinking, the originality of his philosophy is often forgotten or is mostly seen in the shadow of the history of reception. This paper attempts to rebuild Windelband's philosophy in its peculiarity at first in order to facilitate the examination of its systematic significance. In addition to the developmental issues according to which Windelband's intellectual development is divided in three phases (psychologism, philosophy of value and philosophy of culture), this paper investigates the question of in how far Windelband's philosophy of value could be understood as a philosophy of culture. The requirement of the late Windelband to extend Kant's critical philosophy into a comprehensive philosophy of culture serves as a central theme of this interpretational approach. The observation of possible systematic approaches within his theory of value that fulfill this requirement should underpin Windelband's status as a philosopher of culture.
