• Gegenstand der Dissertation ist das von einem anonymen Autor stammende Bellum Africum, das als Teil des Corpus Caesarianum Caesars Feldzug in Afrika (Dezember 47 bis Juli 46 v.Chr.) umfasst. Hauptteil ist ein Zeilenkommentar der Kapitel 1 bis 47 (S.80-323), in dem der Text sowohl historisch als auch philologisch erfasst und bearbeitet wird. Daraus ergeben sich eine Reihe neuer Erkenntnisse verschiedenster Art in Detailfragen. Daneben treten eine Übersetzung der entsprechenden Kapitel ins Deutsche (S.55-78) sowie weitere Untersuchungen, in denen Einzelprobleme, die sich aus der Arbeit am Kommentar ergaben, bearbeitet werden. Thema dieser Untersuchungen sind in der Einleitung (S.33-54) Sprache und Stil (S.33-39), die Verfasserfrage (S.39-46) und die Chronologie der ersten Tage des Feldzuges (S.47-54). Zwei weitere Untersuchungen im Anschluss an den Kommentar befassen sich mit Caesars Legionen im Afrikanischen Krieg (S.324-342) und der Darstellung von Caesarianern und Pompeianern im Bellum Africum (S.343-382). Eine Prosopographie zum Bellum Africum (S.390-407), ein Index zu den benutzten antiken Quellen (S.408-421) und ein Literaturverzeichnis (S.10-32) vervollständigen die Arbeit.
• This doctoral thesis is about the Bellum Africum, written by an unknown author and containing Caesar- African War (between December 47 and Juli 46 BC) as part of the Corpus Caesarianum. Main part of the thesis is a commentary on chs. 1-47 (pp.80-323), which comprises and analyses the text in both a historical and philological way. It produces a lot of new results in various questions of detail. Additionally, the thesis offers a Latin-German translation of chs.1-47 (pp.55-78) and several studies containing separate and detailed surveys of single questions. In the introduction (pp.33-54) these surveys deal with language and style (pp.33-39), the author- identity (p.39-46) and chronological details concerning the first days of the campaign (pp.47-54). Two further studies following the commentary focus on Caesar- legions in the African War (pp.324-342) and the way Caesarians and Pompeians are described in the Bellum Africum (pp.343-382). The thesis is completed by a prosopography of the Bellum Africum, an index containing Latin and Greek sources (pp.408-421), and a bibliography (pp.10-32).
